A PRAGMATIC & PERSPECTIVE on COMMUNICATION
Abstract
As language is an agreement between communicators in a society, total understanding of one another through the symbols we use as language, is impossible. Despite this we do not completely misunderstand each other either. Rather, the closer we are in time and space, the easier communication becomes. Thus, the pre-existing idea that ‘Communication is the tool we have for exchanging thoughts and feelings, to be defined and formed as the persons we evolve as’ has made Communication one of philosophy’s greatest problem and has been written about from several different angles. The thoughts of Dewey and Shusterman are of great help, not only in this search for a holistic view on aesthetics, but also with the problem of communication as well. This paper about pragmatic views on communication will focus on presenting the solution to these questions provided by pragmatism in the line of Dewey and Mead and will also attempt to discuss what communication is from different perspectives.
