Role of HR Analytics in Enhancing Organizational Performance and Decision-making
Abstract
Human resources have typically been viewed as simply having a support role within an organization, but in today’s rapidly changing and competitive marketplace, human resources are now playing a much greater role in influencing the success of the organization from an HR perspective than they ever have before. Historically, the majority of HR-related decision-making has been accomplished through the experience or intuition of managers (which produced varying degrees of accuracy and consistency), but with advances in technology, organizations are now implementing more HR analytics as a means of collecting and then analysing (and using) HR data to assist them in making better, fact-based decisions. As a result of using HR analytics, many organizations are finding that they can achieve higher levels of performance, be more effective at managing their talent, and achieve overall better results. The role that HR analytics plays in organisational performance improvement and the ability to make better management decisions was researched using descriptive research design and by obtaining primary data from 80 HR professionals/managers using a structured questionnaire that contained close-ended and Likert scale questions regarding the level of awareness, perception and actual application of HR analytics. Secondary data were obtained from scholarly journals, books, and other publications available via the internet to create a theoretical base for the study. Statistical methods of description included percentage analysis, frequency distribution table, and mean score analysis, which were further illustrated by tables and charts to provide insight into any patterns and trends. The data indicate that a majority of respondents evaluate their knowledge of HR Analytics and regard HR Analytics as an important tool that assists in decision-making and aligns HR activities to the overall goals of the organization. The findings of the study indicate that HR Analytics help facilitate workforce planning, reduce employee attrition, improve productivity, and enhance the overall performance of the organization. In conclusion, HR Analytics provide an organization with a degree of strategic capability by changing the way traditional HR functions are performed to be more evidence-based; as a result, the organization will be able to realize ongoing, sustainable growth as well as an advantage over its competitors. In addition, this research study can provide managers, HR professionals, and policymakers with the necessary information required for successfully implementing or enhancing HR analytics initiatives within their organization.
